MISSION
The Local brings transcendent music, dance, performing arts, conversations, and workshops to the Hudson Valley as a means to educate, entertain, inspire discovery, and nourish the soul. As a community hub and venue for outstanding cultural programs from around the world and around the corner, The Local is committed to cultivating and sustaining a vibrant local arts scene.
VISION
We believe that diverse, accessible, and thoughtful arts programming has the power to open minds and hearts, and that the arts are essential to a healthy community. Toward these ends, The Local brings extraordinary music, dance, and cultural programs of various styles and genres to the Hudson Valley. We aim to build and bridge our community in a way that reflects, serves, and welcomes all, while driving economic growth for artists and local businesses, and celebrating and acknowledging the diverse and changing demographics that make up our region. It is our goal to create a thriving space that the community feels deeply connected to and enjoys for public and private events.
ABOUT
Housed in a former Dutch chapel built in the 1800s, and lovingly restored, The Local has opened as a space for arts, culture, and community in 2023 under the guidance of Isabel Soffer and Danny Melnick, co-founders of Hudson Valley Live. The two Saugerties-based music producers and performing-arts professionals have each devoted more than 30 years to producing festivals, concerts, and curated arts experiences.
Besides its own world class series of music and dance events, the ADA accessible space is available to rent for parties, concerts, weddings, pop-ups, gallery exhibits and more.
The Local is located in the heart of the Village of Saugerties located at 16 John St behind the Saugerties Reformed Church on Main Street.
“It would be difficult to find two Saugerties residents who are better prepared and networked to bring live entertainment into this new venue in an old space. Both Soffer and Melnick already had long and distinguished careers as music producers, tour managers and event organizers before moving upstate full-time.” - HV1
We hope you’ll support the Hudson Valley's newest independent year-round event space by attending events and spreading the word!
